June 20, 2024 is the first day of summer – the longest day of the year, summer solstice, one day closer to enjoying fresh-picked blueberries!

Our all-natural berry patch in Fenwick is shaping up nicely for another season, with an expected opening date of Friday, July 12. Check our website for the 2024 schedule.

The saying goes: April showers, May flowers. That IS what came to pass in the patch this year.

But there have also been plenty more showers in June – is there a rhyme for that? June rain equals harvesters gain? OK, that may be a stretch, but there is an abundance of beautiful green berries on the bushes – all we need now is some summer sun to bring on the blue.

(BTW, rain is great for the berries, but not for berry signs made with not-so-permanent markers. In fact, after recent downpours, our signs are seriously stark! – even more so than the one shown here)

The berries are a firm and green, taking on a pinkish hue. Next comes purple, and finally blue!

Enough with the rhymes. Summer is officially here and school is almost out. Congratulations kids (and parents) for making it through another year! Come treat yourselves this July to fresh air and fresh berries in the U-pick patch in Fenwick.

We look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks.
