Pruning is an essential part of farming high bush blueberries. Older stalks produce less fruit and take more energy from the plant to sustain. New growth shoots will eventually produce many more berries than the older stalks. Each winter/early spring we prune back 50% of the old stalks and remove the smaller of the new shoots. The plants then put their energy into making the remaining branches/shoots stronger and more fruitful.
